Morcote Lakefront Masterplan

The project for the redevelopment of the Morcote waterfront envisions a redesign of the existing cantonal road into a pedestrian-priority public space (20km/hr) which connects the historic waterfront to Lake Lugano.

A continuous pavement is used to create continuity along the waterfront, connecting the municipal building to the newly constructed parking garage at Garavello. Piazza Granda is expanded with large steps which bring visitors and residents to the level of the lake while creating more space for concerts and events. An expanded waterfront edge creates enough room for the continued passing of public transportation while providing an ample promenade and space for al fresco dining along the water.

A new underground lift connects the municipal plaza to the Chiesa di Santa Maria del Sasso. The winning proposal was selected in 2020 after a three month competition against international design teams; design work is ongoing.
